Character Modeling

Role:

Modelling, Texturing, Lighting & Rendering

Software:

Blender, Zbrush, Substance Painter

Duration:

2 weeks

Brief

This was my first attempt at creature modeling. I found a concept on Pinterest that I liked and used it as a jumping off point, mainly because I wanted to learn how to add fur to a creature and had never done it before. It ended up being as much a technical exercise as a creative one.

Process

I started by blocking out the base form in Blender before moving into Zbrush to sculpt in detail. Once the sculpt felt right, I textured it in Substance Painter and then spent time figuring out fur, which was the part I was most nervous about going in. Lighting and rendering came last, once I was happy with how the surfaces and fur were reading.
